ABOUT chillán

Chillán is located in the Ñuble province in the Bio Bío Region, five hours from Santiago. This area stands out for the importance that it had in the history of Chile, being denominated like the cradle of great Chilean personages. Here was born the hero of the independence of Chile, Don Bernardo O'Higgins as well as the world-renowned pianist Claudio Arrau. Chillán or the “Sun Chair” for its meaning is known for being close to Chillán Volcano, where there are several ski centers that are highly visited in the winter season by chileans and foreigners mainly from Brazil and the United States.


Nevados de Chillán is one of the most important ski resorts, having in its installations hotels, spa, thermal pools, beautiful fields with forests. In this place it is possible to find the most extensive ski track in South America, Las Tres Marías, with 13 kms of extension that also includes the longest surface lift. There are also snowmobile circuits, a snow slide and some places to visit off the main track. From the top of the place it is possible to get a privileged view of the Antuco Volcano and the Domuyo in Argentina. Nearby you will also find the Termas de Chillán, one of the most popular in Chile, which has a modern infrastructure and a national and international gastronomic diversity. In this area there is a warm temperate Mediterranean climate that stands out for a similar extension between dry and rainy season.


Las Trancas Valley is the ideal place for hiking, climbing and mountain biking, and if you want to observe the flora and fauna of the area, which includes forests of coigüeños, lengas and oaks. Some sights of the city are:

  • In front of the Main Square, is the cathedral of the city that has a monument in memory of the people who died in the earthquake of Chillán of a cross of 39 meters high.
