About Serena Mar

Buses Serena Mar also known as Transportes Serena Mar, is an intercity bus company that offers long-distance services and covers several routes in the North of Chile. Buses Serena Mar started its first service in 1992 between La Serena-Tongoy under the leadership of founder, Mr. Rigoberto Escobar, in partnership with - Ariel Sánchez and Ricardo Cuellar.

In the year 2002, Transportes Serena Mar improved the connectivity between Ovalle and La Serena and launched other new services with mini buses. In 2004, Buses Serena Mar launched interprovincial division and reached Ovalle, Vallenar, Huasco and Freirina.

In 2012, Transportes Serena Mar again made a big move and entered into more competitive market and launched high quality double floored buses which included both Salon Cama and Semi Cama seat types.

Finally in 2013 the company inaugurated new service between Huasco to Santiago and between Ovalle to Santiago.

Buses Serena Mar has four different divisions in the company: rural transport, interprovincial transport, special services and cargo. All the four divisons of Transportes Serena Mar are very well equipped with modern facilities, very high quality standards and maintain extraordinary standards for customer service and satisfaction.

The company owns 17 buses of different brands, some of them manufactured in Brazil (Comil) and others in Peru (Modasa). They have “double decker” buses and also buses with raised floor and more space in the trunk, with an average age of 3,6 years.

It offers two types of seats:

  • Semi Cama: Seats with feet support, air conditioning, bathrooms and on board service.
  • Cama: More space between seats, heating, air conditioning, and on board services such as snacks.

The parent company is localed in Coquimbo, on Route 43 in Pan de Azucar.
